AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE TRACKING THROUGH THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES WILL SPREAD LIGHT PRECIPITATION OVER EASTERN KENTUCKY LATE TONIGHT. WITH TEMPERATURES DROPPING TO AROUND THE FREEZING MARK... PRECIPITATION WILL EVENTUALLY MIX WITH AND THEN CHANGE OVER TO SNOW. THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL EXIST.
IN PARTICULAR...LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE...MAINLY ALONG RIDGE TOPS... AND ON GRASSY SURFACES AND EXPOSED OBJECTS. HOWEVER...THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS...AT 1500 FEET AND HIGHER. LOCATIONS ABOVE 1500 FEET IN AREAS ALONG AND NEAR THE KENTUCKY...VIRGINIA AND WEST VIRGINIA STATE BORDER COULD SEE AROUND AN INCH OF SNOW...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
TRAVEL IS EXPECTED TO BECOME HAZARDOUS ALONG ROADS...BRIDGES...AND OVERPASSES IN THE MOUNTAINS. OF PARTICULAR CONCERN ARE U.S. HIGHWAYS 119 AND 421...CROSSING PINE MOUNTAIN AND KENTUCKY STATE HIGHWAY 160...CROSSING THROUGH HURRICANE GAP. MOTORISTS TRAVELING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS TONIGHT ARE ENCOURAGED TO MONITOR NOAA ALL HAZARDS WEATHER RADIO...AND LOCAL RADIO AND TELEVISION MEDIA FOR FURTHER DETAILS OR UPDATES

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST WEDNESDAY. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST WEDNESDAY. AREAS OF FREEZING RAIN AND DRIZZLE MIXED WITH SNOW WILL LINGER INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. A GLAZE OF ICE ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE ALONG WITH A DUSTING OF SNOW. THIS COMBINATION OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURES FALLING INTO THE 20S WILL MAKE FOR HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON AREA ROADWAYS.
