THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.
PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD INTO EASTERN KENTUCKY THIS EVENING. THE PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN AS RAIN OR SNOW...BUT SHOULD QUICKLY CHANGE TO ALL SNOW IN MOST AREAS BEFORE MIDNIGHT...AS COLDER AIR CONTINUES TO FILTER INTO THE AREA. NORTHEAST FLOW OVER THE AREA WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO DROP TO BELOW FREEZING AND SNOW TO ACCUMULATE FROM FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT. STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS BY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT SHOULD AVERAGE 4 TO 6 INCHES ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 64...5 TO 9 INCHES BETWEEN INTERSTATE 64 AND KENTUCKY HIGHWAY 80. HOWEVER...THE SNOW SHOULD BE HEAVIER SOUTH OF KY HIGHWAY 80...WITH 7 TO 11 INCHES POSSIBLE THERE. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OF 1 FOOT OR MORE ARE POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ABOVE 2500 FEET NEAR THE VIRGINIA AND WEST VIRGINIA BORDERS.
