...COLDER TEMPERATURES AND A LITTLE SNOW EXPECTED TO END THE WEEKEND...
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS EAST KENTUCKY TONIGHT. BEHIND THE FRONT AN UNSEASONABLY COLD AIRMASS WILL FILTER INTO THE COALFIELDS CHANGING ANY RAIN SHOWERS OVER TO LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS BY DAWN. WHILE MOISTURE WILL BE LIMITED...UP TO AN INCH OF SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY...MAINLY SOUTH OF THE MOUNTAIN PARKWAY AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 75. LITTLE IF ANY ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED ELSEWHERE.
A STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL THEN ROTATE ACROSS THE AREA ON SUNDAY. WITH THE COLD AIRMASS ALREADY IN PLACE...SNOW SHOWERS WILL ONCE AGAIN BECOME POSSIBLE BY NOON. ANOTHER INCH OF SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER THE FAVORED HIGHER TERRAIN ALONG THE VIRGINIA BORDER...WITH A DUSTING POSSIBLE OVER THE LOWER ELEVATIONS.
THE BIG STORY ON SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT WILL BE THE COLD AND BLUSTERY CONDITIONS. NORTHWEST WINDS SUSTAINED AT 10 TO 20 MPH AND GUSTING OVER 25 MPH AT TIMES WILL COMBINE WITH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S TO PRODUCE WIND CHILLS IN THE TEENS. THE WINDS WILL SUBSIDE SOMEWHAT SUNDAY NIGHT...BUT WITH TEMPERATURES FALLING WELL INTO THE TEENS...THE WIND CHILLS THROUGH THE NIGHT WILL FALL INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS. SUB-ZERO WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ALONG THE VIRGINIA BORDER.
